With the Brazilian Day in LA and the Brazilian Street Carnaval only 3 weeks away, we are kicking things off with an incredible night of culture, food, and fun at Samba Restaurant on Saturday, August 25, from 9 pm – 1 am in Redondo Beach.
SambaLa Samba School every few years chooses the top samba dancer for the school to dance in front of the drum corp or “bateria”. Other than the madrinha (godmother, currently Valeria Ruggieri), the position of Rainha is the most coveted spot for a samba dancer. The current queen, Jonia McClenney is coming to the end of an amazing term and we thank her for her dedication, heart, and many years of service.
In addition, judges will be choosing the Brazilian Day in LA muse who will also parade on the day of the event on September 8, 2012. Entertaining at the event will be Mestre Rodney D’Assis will be leading the bateria with the incredible voice from God, Renni Flores singing.
Celebrity judges for the event will be Christine Devine of Fox News, artist and Rose Parade float designer John Ramirez, Director, Musician, Producer, Richard Elfman, Playboy Photographer Isaac Mathew White, Mestre Roque from BodySport Capoeira, Flavio Ribeiro from Brasilidade. They will be choosing the best samba dancer for SambaLa Samba School as well as the muse for this coming Brazilian Day in LA.
